{"id":1138,"date":"2026-08-16T16:51:56","date_gmt":"2026-08-16T16:51:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/energycloud.org\/northern-ireland\/?p=1138"},"modified":"2026-08-16T17:01:39","modified_gmt":"2026-08-16T17:01:39","slug":"energycloud-response-to-warm-health-homes-fund-consultation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/energycloud.org\/northern-ireland\/energycloud-response-to-warm-health-homes-fund-consultation\/","title":{"rendered":"EnergyCloud Response to Warm Health Homes Fund Consultation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">EnergyCloud Northern Ireland has submitted its response to Communities Minister Gordon Lyons&#8217; consultation on the proposed <strong>Warm Healthy Homes Fund<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We strongly welcome the ambition behind the Fund and its focus on improving warmth, health and energy affordability for low income households across Northern Ireland.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"810\" height=\"534\" src=\"https:\/\/energycloud.org\/northern-ireland\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2026\/08\/EnergyCloud-NI-DfC-Submission-web-.avif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1139\" style=\"width:574px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/energycloud.org\/northern-ireland\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2026\/08\/EnergyCloud-NI-DfC-Submission-web-.avif 810w, https:\/\/energycloud.org\/northern-ireland\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2026\/08\/EnergyCloud-NI-DfC-Submission-web--300x198.avif 300w, https:\/\/energycloud.org\/northern-ireland\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2026\/08\/EnergyCloud-NI-DfC-Submission-web--768x506.avif 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 810px) 100vw, 810px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our submission also makes the case for looking beyond traditional energy efficiency measures and ensuring that the significant public investment being made in people&#8217;s homes prepares those households for Northern Ireland&#8217;s future energy system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among our key recommendations are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 <strong>Modern smart storage heating should be eligible where appropriate.<\/strong> Modern systems can be charged when renewable electricity is abundant or very low cost, turning surplus electricity into useful household heat and providing valuable demand side flexibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 <strong>Publicly funded smart energy technologies should be secure and interoperable.<\/strong> Households should be able to change electricity supplier or flexibility service provider without having to replace publicly funded equipment or becoming locked into a proprietary system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is a bigger principle behind our submission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Low income households should not be the last to benefit from Northern Ireland&#8217;s transition to a smart, flexible electricity system.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Warm Healthy Homes Fund provides an opportunity to put them at the front of that transition, enabling households experiencing fuel poverty to benefit from renewable energy and future flexibility services while helping Northern Ireland make better use of clean electricity that might otherwise be constrained or wasted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">EnergyCloud Northern Ireland is already demonstrating the potential, working with SONI, NIE Networks, electricity suppliers and housing and community partners to deliver free energy events to participating low income households.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We look forward to continuing to work with the Department for Communities and partners across the housing, energy and community sectors as the Warm Healthy Homes Fund develops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Consultation: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.communities-ni.gov.uk\/consultations\/consultation-warm-healthy-homes-fund\">https:\/\/www.communities-ni.gov.uk\/consultations\/consultation-warm-healthy-homes-fund<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>EnergyCloud Northern Ireland has submitted its response to Communities Minister Gordon Lyons&#8217; consultation on the proposed Warm Healthy Homes Fund.
