PrepayPower Delivers Heat Pump Project with Tuath Housing Association and EnergyCloud

PrepayPower, Tuath Housing Association, and EnergyCloud are delighted to announce a successful pilot project in Dublin that provides free renewable energy to 26 residents. The project diverts surplus energy that would otherwise be wasted into powering heat pumps and other services in each home.

The pilot began in May 2024 and since then has delivered over 600 kWh of free electricity to the residents. This is equivalent to 463 wash loads, 446 dishwasher cycles, or 512 electric showers.

Tracy Tuffin, Head of Residential Business Sales at PrepayPower, said: “We are delighted to be the first energy company to work with EnergyCloud on delivering free renewable electricity to our customers whose homes are using heat pumps as their heat source. The CRU (Commission for Regulation of Utilities) estimates that the average family home uses 4,200 kWh a year. Providing over 600 kWh of free energy will have a significant financial impact for these families, especially as we enter the winter months when energy demands and costs inevitably rise. Heat pumps generate fewer greenhouse gas emissions when compared to their energy-intensive counterparts, so this pilot project aligns perfectly with our efforts to enable a just transition to green energy.”

Kate Joyce, Head of Sustainability and Special Projects at Tuath Housing Association, said: “As one of Ireland’s largest Approved Housing Bodies, we are constantly looking for innovative ways to help our residents. When the opportunity arose to work with EnergyCloud and PrepayPower, we were delighted to support this pilot and deliver real financial benefits to those struggling with high energy costs.”

John Mullins, Chairperson of EnergyCloud Ireland, said: “At EnergyCloud, our mission is to work towards ending energy poverty by using surplus renewable energy which would otherwise be wasted. We have started this work with smart immersion controllers through our stakeholders and partners, and this pilot with PrepayPower and Tuath is the first step in a strategic initiative to expand our work and support the provision of free renewable energy through heat pumps in homes experiencing energy poverty.”
