Innovative solutions to divert
otherwise wasted renewable energy
to homes in fuel poverty.

Our Mission

our-mission

In 2024, approximately 8,103 GWh of surplus wind energy was curtailed across England, Scotland and Wales, with a retail value of over £2 billion. This is clean electricity that could have powered hundreds of millions of hot water tanks or essential appliances for households in need.

EnergyCloud Scotland is committed to putting this surplus renewable energy to better use: supporting vulnerable households, reducing carbon emissions and helping to build a more efficient and fair energy system for the future.

Fuel poverty remains a major issue in Scotland. In 2023:

  • An estimated 861,000 households (34%) were living in fuel poverty
  • 491,000 households (19.4%) were in extreme fuel poverty

Despite Scotland’s rich renewable energy potential, vast amounts of clean electricity are still curtailed and lost.

Our mission is to create solutions that divert surplus renewable energy, which would otherwise be wasted, into homes, with a primary focus on those in fuel poverty.

We believe:

  • No household should be left in the cold while renewable energy goes unused
  • Surplus renewable power can simultaneously address fuel poverty and reduce emissions.

EnergyCloud Scotland is working with partners to use some of the wasted renewable energy to provide free renewable energy to families in fuel poverty.
