Innovative solutions to divert
otherwise wasted renewable energy
to homes in fuel poverty.
EnergyCloud Ireland
We are an Irish charity working to end energy poverty by redirecting surplus renewable energy to homes that need it most. In partnership with government, local authorities, approved housing bodies and energy partners, we provide free, clean energy to households experiencing energy poverty.
Energy Poverty and Energy Waste
Energy poverty affects more than 550,000 households in Ireland, leaving many families struggling to heat their homes, while at the same time large volumes of clean renewable energy are routinely wasted due to constraints on the electricity system. In recent years, billions of euro worth of zero-carbon wind and solar energy has been dispatched down, even as hundreds of thousands of households fall into energy arrears. This disconnect highlights a fundamental challenge in Ireland’s energy transition: renewable energy is expanding rapidly, but its benefits are not reaching all communities. Addressing energy poverty alongside renewable energy waste is essential to delivering a fair, effective and socially just transition to a low-carbon energy system.
Our Impact
EnergyCloud Ireland is already delivering practical, measurable impact by redirecting surplus renewable energy to households experiencing energy poverty. Through partnerships with local authorities and approved housing bodies, EnergyCloud provides free renewable energy, reducing energy costs for families and improving comfort and wellbeing in homes that would otherwise struggle to stay warm. At the same time, this work reduces renewable energy waste and supports Ireland’s Climate Action Plan by putting clean energy to use rather than allowing it to be curtailed. By demonstrating that energy poverty and renewable energy waste can be addressed together, EnergyCloud shows how climate action can deliver immediate social benefit.
