Innovative solutions to divert
otherwise wasted renewable energy
to homes in fuel poverty.
Our mission is to create solutions to divert excess renewable energy – which would otherwise be wasted – to homes in Northern Ireland, with a primary focus on those experiencing fuel poverty.
Fuel poverty is a persistent challenge in Northern Ireland, where around one in four households spend more than 10% of their income on energy costs. Alarmingly, 27% of households have gone without heating or electricity at some point in the past two years due to affordability issues.
Yet between 2016 and 2024, according to SONI, more than 3,098 GWh of zero-carbon wind energy was dispatched down – renewable energy with an approximate retail value of £770 million, enough to have heated over 1 billion tanks of hot water. There is a real opportunity to use this energy in social housing homes and help reduce the impact of fuel poverty.
EnergyCloud Northern Ireland is a not-for-profit social enterprise, supported by a growing range of partners and stakeholders, working together to harness this excess renewable energy for the benefit of households most at risk of fuel poverty.
We are surrounded by vast natural resources and by collaborating across sectors, with Government, housing bodies and energy providers, we can reduce Northern Ireland’s reliance on fossil fuels while improving the lives of families in need.
