Henrik Schapp Appointed CEO of EnergyCloud Germany

EnergyCloud Germany is pleased to announce the appointment of Henrik Schapp as Chief Executive Officer, as the organisation accelerates its mission to turn surplus renewable electricity into direct social benefit for households experiencing energy poverty.

EnergyCloud’s purpose is clear: ensure renewable electricity that would otherwise be wasted is used to support households in need. The scale of the opportunity in Germany is significant. In 2024, approximately 9,400 GWh of renewable electricity were curtailed, with an estimated retail value of €3.76 billion, while millions of households continued to struggle with energy costs.

Henrik will lead EnergyCloud Germany’s delivery phase, working with partners across the energy system to scale practical programmes that reduce curtailment and direct tangible benefits to vulnerable households. With the EnergyCloud platform now operational, the focus will be on deepening collaboration with energy partners, housing providers, technology companies and social institutions to unlock the social value of surplus renewable generation.

Henrik’s appointment builds on recent governance and leadership milestones for EnergyCloud Germany, including the Board’s ratification of the EnergyCloud Charter in December 2025 and the appointment of Dr Christian Feisst as Chairperson in January 2026.

Commenting on his appointment, Henrik Schapp, CEO of EnergyCloud Germany, said:

“EnergyCloud’s mission is to ensure that renewable electricity that would otherwise be wasted is used to help households experiencing energy poverty. I am very happy to support EnergyCloud’s mission in Germany with the help of partners like energy retailers, housing associations, industry partners and social institutions with the aim to use the EnergyCloud platform to create benefits for households in need and reduce lost energy through curtailment.”

EnergyCloud Germany looks forward to working with Henrik and partners nationwide to demonstrate how Germany’s energy transition can deliver both environmental and social outcomes, ensuring clean energy benefits households rather than being lost through curtailment.
