£1 billion of renewable energy wasted in Northern Ireland since 2021
Northern Ireland has wasted renewable energy with an estimated retail value of £1 billion since 2021.
CEO of EnergyCloud Northern Ireland, Dr. Patrick Keatley outlined this figure yesterday when he addressed the All Party Group on Fuel Poverty at Stormont.
At the same time, fuel poverty remains a major issue across Northern Ireland, with families struggling to heat their homes, pay their energy bills and afford everyday essentials. The scale of renewable energy being wasted represents a significant missed opportunity to support these households.
EnergyCloud Northern Ireland is working with a broad range of partners including SONI – System Operator for Northern Ireland, NIE Networks, RenewableNI, National Energy Action NI, Action Renewables, Bryson Charitable Group, Northern Ireland Housing Executive, Radius Housing, NB Housing, Budget Energy NI, ClickEnergy, Share Energy and SSE Airtricity. It demonstrates how collaboration can turn otherwise wasted energy into a practical benefit for families.
