Over £1.3 billion worth of zero-carbon energy wasted in first five months of 2026 – across England, Scotland and Wales

Zero carbon wind energy wasted across England, Scotland and Wales (January- May 2026) In the first five months of this year, 4,987 million kWh of surplus zero-carbon renewable energy was wasted across England, Scotland and Wales, with an estimated retail value of £1.33 billion. At the same time, millions of households across England, Scotland and Wales continue to experience fuel poverty, underlining the gap between surplus clean generation and unmet social need.
