In the first half of 2026 , 5,625 million kWh of surplus zero-carbon renewable energy was wasted across England, Scotland and Wales, with an estimated retail value of £1.49 billion.

At the same time, millions of households across England, Scotland and Wales continue to experience fuel poverty, underlining the gap between surplus clean generation and unmet social need.
