In the first four months of 2026, 4,415 million kWh of surplus zero carbon renewable energy was wasted across England, Scotland and Wales.

The estimated retail value of this unused clean energy was £1.19 billion.

At the same time, millions of households continue to experience fuel poverty.

This is not a shortage of renewable energy. It is a challenge of infrastructure, flexibility and how we use the clean energy already being generated.
