The Impact of Wasted Renewable Energy: EnergyCloud Ireland Report – September 2026

While we await the recommendations of the NEAT (National Energy Affordability Taskforce) for this year’s budget, EnergyCloud continue to show what is possible.  We are demonstrating every day across Ireland that when there is waste in the system it is possible to use that as a signal to heat people’s homes and water for free and we are helping over 3,000 people every month reduce their energy bills.

According to the ESRI energy poverty could be eliminated with a targeted approach at a cost of €370 million per annum.  Given we are wasting over €600 million in wind energy this year, it seems that we could use some of this waste to fund this.

In Budget 2027 the Government has the opportunity to announce a desire to begin using the waste, as per its commitment in the Programme for Government and to begin the process of eliminating energy poverty and tackling the affordability crisis with targeted energy credits.
